Introduction to Digital Painting!
Jump into the world of digital painting with 9 years veteran comic book artist Teddy! This intensive course tackles both sides of digital art. Each week you will learn basic art lessons that can be applied to any medium, as well as digital techniques specific to painting in Photoshop with a pressure sensitive tablet.
The art lessons will teach you how to render artistic looking objects by understanding light and shadow, color theory, and surface textures. Drawings will be provided for you to paint over so you don’t have to worry about that part of the process. At the same time, you will learn how to use a pressure sensitive tablet combined with Photoshop to create amazing works of art! Each week multiple tools and techniques specific to digital painting will be explained and demonstrated, as well as time-saving tips and tricks to help you work as efficiently as possible.

We strive to provide the most comfortable environment and a positive platform for learning.
Who is this programme for?
This awesome programme is for youth from 13 onwards.
What if I don’t know Photoshop?
Don’t worry! We cover everything you need to know for digital painting quickly and in a friendly manner. And we’ll slow down if we need to. We wouldn’t substitute this class for a Photoshop class if you want to be a graphic designer, but if you just want to digital painting, we’ll have you covered!
What if I’m already familiar with Photoshop or even comic book coloring?
This is the perfect class to help you add digital painting to your portfolio! Even if the basic digital tools and art concepts are already familiar to you, the techniques in this class are very different than what is taught in our comic book coloring classes. The focus of this class is rendering objects without any of the drawing lines showing through your work.
Do I need to know anything about comics?
Absolutely not. The course is about digital painting, and that doesn’t apply to just comics. The information provided can be applied to any industry, and much of it can be applied to other artistic media. The class has a quick pace, so if you’re very new, be prepared to work, but one thing we pride ourselves on at Artzland Studio is our ability to teach to an individual’s skill level.
These courses aren’t about the instructor, and that’s why we keep them small. We have an excellent track record with our students or clients, and it’s our top aim to keep it that way. Everyone’s welcome, and the group learning will help everyone improve!
What computer programs do I need for this course?
You’ll need Photoshop. Any version of Photoshop should do! The basics are the same and have been since the beginning. If necessary, we’ll do some general troubleshooting with folks as they encounter differences in different versions of the program.
Learning about digital painting is great, but do we get any practical industry advice?
You’ll get a LOT of practical industry advice. Networking is one of our main topics in all of our introductory courses. It’s, simply put, essential for anyone who wants a career in comics. We discuss relationship building and ways to get your foot in the door and where to go to meet the right people and so on.
If I don’t want a career as a digital painter, and just like making art or even just want to learn more about the art form I love, is this class right for me?
Sure it is! How better to expand your knowledge and understanding of digital art than by engaging with creators? And that’s what most of our students are–they’re creators. It’s a great place to learn just for fun if you wish too. We’d love to have you!
